SPEECH-LANGUAGE PATHOLOGIST
EXTERNAL POSITION
Location: School District No. 27(Cariboo-Chilcotin), encompassing the towns of Williams Lake and 100 Mile House, BC and several smaller communities between Bridge Lake and Anahim Lake, including Horsefly & Likely.
Appointment: 1.00 FTE

Specific Period of Time: Full time Continuing, beginning September 2009. This is a 10-month position, with school vacations.
Job Description:
provide itinerant speech & language services to several public schools
provide consultation, direct service, and home programs where appropriate for students in Kindergarten to Gr. 12 (with emphasis on the primary grades)
complete speech & language screening & assessments using standardized as well as informal measures
design and implement intervention strategies for students with communication disorders. This will include supporting students across a wide spectrum of needs, including those with learning disabilities, autism, and other developmental disabilities. Some students may require various forms of augmentative communication
participate in school-based team meetings
provide direction for and work with TA’s working in the speech and language program
provide information about communication development and disorders to teachers, parents, and others in the school setting and in the community
You would join a team of three speech-language pathologists serving the speech & language needs of the School District of approximately 5100 students and 380 teachers. School Psychologists, Counsellors, Occupational/Physical Therapist & Teachers of the Hearing Impaired and Visually Impaired, round out the Student Support Services team. The School District office is located in Williams Lake with Student Support Services offices in both Williams Lake and 100 Mile House.
Qualifications Required:
master’s degree in Speech-Language Pathology from a recognized institution
eligible for CASLPA certification & membership in BCASLPA
valid BC drivers license and your own vehicle. Access to a School District vehicle is provided for longer distances
previous experience working in a school setting would be considered an asset
previous experience working with First Nations students and families would be considered an asset
demonstrated ability to work independently and as a team member
Criminal Record Check is required for employment with any BC School District
Approximate Starting Wage:
Speech and Language Pathologists are paid on the teacher salary scale. Based on years of experience the salary range is $48,681 for first year of employment to $77,942 with 10 years of experience in a School District.
(Note: Actual starting wage will depend on candidate’s qualifications and experience.)
