Down Syndrome Research Foundation Early Foundations Preschool Speech and Language Pathologist Position Part-time SLP contract position (10-15 hours/week) Location North Burnaby – DSRF Facility Start date September 1, 2009 The Down Syndrome Research Foundation (DSRF) is looking to contract a part time speech and language pathologist to implement a social -language program with a research component in the DSRF Early Foundations Preschool. The successful candidate will require a flexible schedule. The SLP will offer 2 - 60 minute classes a day (morning and afternoon) to 8 preschool age students per class four days a week (Monday to Thursday) from September to June. Responsibilities: • Assist in the development and execution of a social and language program for preschool children who present barriers in communication. • Assist in the research and conducting assessments • Assist in the transfer of the skills into the classroom environment • Collaborate with families, preschool staff, Director of Research, Director of Program Development and lead SLP to ensure quality and effective programming. • Open and transparent communication with the families • Public presentation of research findings as required • Other duties as required Qualifications: The successful candidate will have most of the following qualities and experience: • Certified Speech and Language Pathologist with a Master’s degree • Strong project management skills, including ability to prioritize • Strong research and analytical skills • An understanding of research • Proven ability to collaborate with others The non-profit Down Syndrome Research Foundation was established in 1995 with a mission to ensure a brighter future for individuals with Down syndrome and other intellectual disabilities. At the DSRF we initiate and participate in research that provides insight into the unique learning style of these individuals. The data collected is analyzed and pilot interventions and educational programs are developed and offered.
