Pediatric Therapy Recruitment and Retention Strategy Update

We are pleased to share that one-time only funding has been allocated for the development and implementation of a targeted pediatric therapy recruitment strategy to address recruitment and retention challenges facing the occupational therapy (OT), physiotherapy (PT) and speech-language pathology (SLP) professions. The Physiotherapy Association of British Columbia (PABC) was the successful proponent following a Request for Proposal. The contract period is from August 1, 2017 to March 31, 2018.

The strategy is focusing on recruiting and retaining paediatric therapists, including hard-to recruit areas, rural and remote communities, and Indigenous communities. The intent is to reduce the number of vacant therapy positions in MCFD funded agencies, and to fill newly created therapy positions associated with recent funding increases directed to Early Intervention Therapy and School-Aged Therapy programs.

As part of this initiative, promotional materials and professional development opportunities (online and in-person) are being developed. PABC, as the contractor for this project, will be reaching out directly to some of you and posting information on this site over the next few months.

This is a very exciting initiative and we look forward to sharing these materials and opportunities with all of you.

Sincerely,

MCFD Pediatric Therapy Initiative
